Partner Acrobatics.
Acro.

Acroyoga.

Partner acrobatics involves two or more people, with one person as the ‘base’ (in standing or lying position), lifting, moving and supporting another person as a ‘flyer’. The poses/skills can be static or dynamic and can be practiced one-off, in a sequence, or in a whole show!

(partneracrobatics.com)

Acro is shown to enhance overall health & wellbeing, using the mind + body connection to move, create, and engage with others. Physically; you will work on strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness. Mentally; you will work on trust, communication, and confidence... Together, we will work on building connection and community!

Friendly reminders - Safety is a top priority therefore spotters are required when learning. We will always work in groups of three, minimum. Also, this practice is often active, and requires close physical proximity to others.

This practice has multiple names, and multiple approaches Acro has a Solar and a Lunar practice. Solar acro is higher energy and can involve standing acro, washing machines (looping sequences), and dynamic tricks like whips, pops, and icarians. While Lunar acro is lower energy and can include restorative poses, intentional movement / sequencing, flying therapeutics, and even elements of thai yoga massage. When it comes to understanding acro's relation to yoga, one could consider many yogic philosophies to bring into this practice. Due to the connective and creative nature of Acro, as one continues to practice they can expect it to aid and inform their inner-work. When connecting with another human there is always self growth to be made, lessons to be learned, and emotions to be processed. Even through something as simple as learning to use ones voice.

FAQs

Do I have to have a yoga practice to join?

We recommend that you have an active movement practice of any kind before trying partner acrobatics, and it does not have to be yoga. At the entry level, Acro is more accessible than it looks! Private sessions will be designed to suit you, meeting you at your level.

Do I need to come with a partner?

You can attend classes and workshops solo! In fact a lot of people do. We only ask that you come with an open mind.

Is acro safe?

When we work together there are always spotters present to ensure maximum safety of the session. Each group has 3-4 people and each role gets a full explanation before we attempt every skill. Therefore there is always an informed spotter involved

Do I have to chose one of the roles (base/flyer) ?

You are encouraged to try both roles in this practice to further understand what is happening for your partners, even if you focus on one. If you would like to only practice one role that is also okay!
There are no gender assigned roles in this practice. & Everybody gets involved in spotting.
